Choosing the right saxophone player for your event

For something relaxed and stylish, like a corporate networking event, wedding drinks reception or background music in a luxury hotel, a solo sax player is a brilliant choice. Playing everything from smooth jazz and soul to Motown, pop and chilled house over professional backing tracks, they bring familiar songs to life with the unmistakable sound of live saxophone. It's the perfect balance of atmosphere and entertainment, giving guests something wonderful to listen to while keeping the music relaxed enough for conversation.

Our team has 27 years of experience booking saxophone players for weddings and events, with over 1906 sax player bookings secured to date, including events at distinguished venues such as The Ritz London, The Dorchester, Shangri-La The Shard, Rudding Park and Celtic Manor Resort. Get in touch and we'll be happy to recommend saxophonists performing in your area.

Booking a wedding saxophonist

A wedding saxophonist can perform throughout your day, from welcoming guests at your ceremony and playing you down the aisle, to providing a laid-back soundtrack for drinks, canapés and the wedding breakfast. With relatively little equipment to set up, many can also move easily between different spaces as your day unfolds.

But it's the evening party where sax players really come into their own, with 60% of couples opting for an upbeat sax and dj style wedding package. Picture your favourite Ibiza house and dance anthems, with a live saxophonist improvising over the music and getting right amongst your guests.

Many saxophonists can also learn a special song for your first dance, given enough notice. And here's a useful tip: you don't always need to hire a separate wedding DJ to enjoy the full ibiza style sax player experience. Many of our musicians offer self-contained packages, playing live over their own DJ-style backing tracks. If you'd prefer a DJ mixing live throughout the evening, explore our dedicated DJ-and-sax wedding packages.

DJ and sax players for parties

If you're planning a party, a saxophonist performing alongside your DJ brings a whole new dimension to the dance floor. Improvising live over Ibiza house, dance anthems and club classics, they can roam among your guests, play alongside the crowd and feed off the energy of the music. With the DJ keeping the tunes flowing and the saxophonist interacting amongst your guests, it's everything you love about a great DJ set, with the added buzz of a live musician.

Alive tip: If you're hiring a solo sax player without a DJ, it's worth checking whether their quote includes a PA system or amplification. Most of our saxophone players include this in their standard price, but those who regularly perform alongside a separate DJ may not. You'll find details of the equipment each performer provides on their profile page.

Ready to find your saxophonist? Enter your event date and location to check online prices and availability, then watch performance videos, explore song lists and compare your favourite acts.

Saxophonist Booking FAQs

From prices and performance times to music choices, DJ collaborations and equipment, our FAQs cover everything you need to know before booking a saxophone player for your wedding, party or event.

In 2026, the average cost to hire a saxophonist for a wedding or party through Alive Network was £589, although your final quote will depend on the date, location, performance length and package you choose. A solo saxophone player performing over backing tracks will usually cost less than a complete DJ and saxophone package. Enter your event date and location to get instant online prices and availability.

Not necessarily! Many of our saxophonists offer self-contained packages, performing live over professional backing tracks featuring Ibiza house, dance anthems and club classics. This can give you that Ibiza-style sax experience without booking a separate DJ. If you'd like someone mixing tracks, taking requests and keeping the music flowing throughout the evening, a dedicated DJ and sax package is the better option. Ask our team if you'd like help pairing a sax player with one of our incredible party djs.

A solo sax player typically performs 2 x 45 minute sets over professionally recorded backing tracks, making them a great choice for everything from chilled drinks receptions to upbeat parties. A DJ and saxophonist act combines a live saxophonist with a DJ mixing music, allowing the sax player and DJ to improvise in real time, feeding off the energy of your guests. The 'live' sets usually last 2 x 45 minutes, but then the DJ will also provide a regular DJ service over a longer period of time. Some saxophonists offer both options, so you can choose the format that suits your event and budget.

Absolutely. A wedding saxophonist can play as guests arrive, accompany your walk down the aisle, perform during the signing of the register and provide relaxed music for drinks or the wedding breakfast. Many also offer upbeat evening performances alongside a DJ or over their own backing tracks. If you'd like saxophone music at several points throughout your wedding, ask about combined packages and allow enough time for any equipment changes between locations.

There's plenty of variety. For relaxed occasions, many saxophone players perform smooth jazz, swing, soul, Motown, pop and chilled house. For parties, you can find performers specialising in Ibiza house, dance anthems, funk and club classics. Some can move between both styles during the same booking. Every saxophonist has their own repertoire, so browse their song list and watch their performance videos to find the sound you're after.

Many can, particularly for a wedding entrance, first dance or another special moment. We'd recommend requesting your song at least eight weeks in advance, or ideally at the point of booking. If the song isn't already in their repertoire, we'll need to check whether they can source or create a suitable backing track, and whether an additional charge applies.

Most saxophonists offer packages such as two 45-minute sets, two 60-minute sets or three 45-minute sets, with breaks in between. Shorter performances and longer bookings may also be available. For a wedding, you might choose a single set during the drinks reception or several sets spread across the evening. You can check the artist's package details on their profile page, and we'll make sure you get an accurate quotation based on your exact event timings once you enquire.

Most of our solo saxophone players can provide their own PA system or amplification, but it's important to check what's included in the quoted price. Saxophonists who regularly perform alongside a separate DJ may expect to use the DJ's sound system instead. You'll find equipment details on each artist's profile. If you're booking a solo performer without a DJ, we'd particularly recommend confirming how their backing tracks and saxophone will be amplified.

Many can, especially those offering Ibiza-style sax performances with a wireless microphone setup. Roaming lets the saxophonist move onto the dance floor, interact with guests and play right in the middle of the party. For a more relaxed drinks reception, they may prefer to perform from a fixed position. Not every artist offers roaming performances, so check their videos and equipment details if guest interaction is important to you - or ask our team when you enquire.

A solo saxophonist generally needs only a small performance area. As a rough guide, allow around 2 × 2 metres for the musician and their equipment, although larger PA systems or DJ and sax setups may need more room. Setup and sound-check typically take around 30 minutes where access is straightforward. Let your performer know about stairs, parking restrictions, outdoor spaces or tight turnaround times so they can plan accordingly.

For weddings and popular summer weekend dates, we'd recommend enquiring as soon as you've confirmed your venue and date. The majority of customers book around five to six months ahead, but sought-after performers may be booked considerably earlier, especially during peak wedding season. If your event is coming up soon, it's still worth checking availability as we're likely to have options available.
